Submitting the site to Google

With a small website up and running I now get to focus on the fun part, getting people to actually visit it!

I have started by asking Google to crawl my website as this can take some time and it's good to get this process going. To do this you will need to have a Google account which is also gives you access to a whole host of information and articles on how to increase your website's ranking and quality.

There are lots of articles such as how Google crawls and indexes your website and how to increase your website's search ranking. There's loads of helpful stuff on there, its a really good starting place.

Will follow up later with further details on indexing and ranking specifics.

Site up and running

SO! Site is now up and running (www.poachedfruitrecipes.com). A very simple site, only has a couple of pages on at the moment.

Not my best ever work but it doesn't look bad and it does the job!

Next steps are to add some more content, get Adsense up and running and then a big campaign of advertising...

Browsing the web recently I came across a number of very small sites which were using Google's Adsense. These sites had only a small amount of content on a particular theme (in this case food recipes), but given their simplicity and the ease with which they can be created I am going to have a go on one of my own.

Fortunately I have some experience in building web sites, so should be able to pull something together in a relatively short space of time.
